Report: Android Lollipop 5.1 Will Be Released In March Report: Android Lollipop 5.1 Will Be Released In March

Mo Versi, the HTC's vice-president, might just have let the cat out of the bag while answering a question posted by one of the company's customers. Being an active Twitter member, Mr. Versi often tries to answer his followers the best he can so it's no surprise that when he saw this question: "ETA on the update that fixes the cap. buttons lights for the M7 GPE, please?" he decided to be a sport and help out. However, his answer: "It'll be tied to Google's next MR, which is in March. Thanks," probably just spilled the beans about when Android 5.1 will start rolling out.

Furthermore, there are several other "incidents" which seem to point to the same conclusion. First, there was a listing from the Philippines in which the upcoming Android One phones were said to be sold with Android 5.1 installed (the listing was scrubbed a short time after). Furthermore, the appearance of a benchmark score which shows the performance of a LG Nexus 5 that ran Lollipop 5.1, could also be an important tell.

While we don't have any information about the upgrades and fixes that this new version of Lollipop will bring, we definitely know the bugs that we hope will get fixed in Android 5.1. The faulty memory management, the heads up notifications that force you to wait ten seconds if you don't want to act on them, and the lack of an Overview button are some of the issues that I would like to see addressed. And since we are talking about addressing issues, it would also be nice of Google to create some kind of unified updating system because people from certain areas of the world didn't even get the chance to update to Android 5.0 before the 5.1 becomes available for others.
