Android Phones Will Stay Unlocked While Being Held
Android owners having received the Lollipop update are soon going to enjoy the new 'on-body detection' feature. This new option will use your accelerometer to detect when your device is being held or carried to keep it unlocked. The feature will require a passcode, but only the first time you access the phone, then it will keep it unlocked until you put it down. It is very convenient as you won't have to unlock your device every time you need to take it out of your pocket or bag.
The feature will also come in useful if you leave your phone somewhere, as it will automatically lock the phone and prevent others from accessing your private data. It isn't completely secure as it can't recognize who is holding the phone. If you hand your unlocked device to someone else, it will not lock. The feature only detects when the phone is being held or not.
Additionally, the smart lock feature will allow for setting trusted places like your home, office, or car, so the phone will stay unlocked in these zones. It is reported some Android users have already received the body detection feature, but even if you've updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, this doesn't mean you'll get the option immediately. The feature is rolled out slowly and, based on users reports, currently available only on particular devices.
