NVIDIA Confirms its Plans for the 500GB SHIELD Pro
Back in April the company showed off a 500GB variant of the SHIELD set-top box. The official representatives then said that the announcement was made 'by mistake' and the console was meant to be available only for some of NVIDIA's partners. Then the Pro version of Android TV-powered device quickly disappeared from the website. Now it turns out that the SHIELD Pro will eventually be available for purchase.
The announcement was made by ManuelG, an NVIDIA employee, on the company's forums. According to the source, the sales of the Pro version will start in May, together with the release of the standard 16GB edition. No official information about the price tag so far, as the device hasn't yet been shown on NVIDIA's website, but if the previous 'leak' was true, then the 500GB SHIELD will set you back $299, which is $100 more expensive compared to the standard version. We cannot say for sure if the extended storage space will be the only benefit of the Pro as ManuelG was not able to give more information. What he did mention, however, is that both Android TV SHIELDs will support Netflix.
Just a quick refresher on the specs of the 16GB set-top box: NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor, 256-core Maxwell GPU with 3GB RAM, two USB 3.0 slots and support of 4K videos.
