Samsung Shuts Down Its Video Service Samsung Shuts Down Its Video Service

On July 1 Samsung shut down its music service and offered the users to either get a three-months subscription to Google Play Music or a free Internet radio powered by Slacker. Back in May, the company ceased support for the Hub Books app, leaving its users in the caring hands of Kindle. On August 1 Samsung will shut down its Video Hub. This will mark a complete retirement of the tech-giant from the digital media market.

The Video Hub users will be offered to migrate their accounts to M-GO and have all the videos and TV shows they purchased on Samsung transferred to this account. This will work only for those videos that are currently available on the M-GO library. As an excuse for such inconveniences, Samsung's partner will also provide VIP treatment to the 'migrants', alongside with a «special introductory offer» that will grant them $5 to spend on the service and a 50% discount on two movie rentals.

Currently, M-GO negotiates with major studios to get all the Samsung content to its library. In case some of the content will not make it to the M-GO library, those who purchased it on Samsung will receive some promotional credits instead.

Samsung gave little comment on the matter, saying that it is a part of the company's «ongoing strategy», and highlighting its current «focus on some new exciting video products». But we can, though, suspect that Google is involved, considering that the megacorp has been pushing Samsung to, presumably, stop them from creating apps that would potentially compete with Google services.
