Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Get Android Lollipop in December
According to unnamed sources close to SamMobile, the soon-arriving Android Lollipop operating system will be available for Samsung Galaxy S5 phones by December. But, just to clarify, this doesn't necessarily mean that your Galaxy S5 will allow you to update your Android OS, it just means that some will.
As I've said in a previous article, Android updates depend on a lot of things such as region or carriers and that means that some clients will have access to Lollipop sooner than others. As far as speculations go, the unlocked international model is expected to be the first one receiving Android 5.0, gradually followed by other regions. It's also worth mentioning that for the previous Android version, it took more than 3 months for the update to be available on all the phones, so if you get it before February 2015, luck is on your side.
From what we've read about Lollipop, the soon-to-come operating system for mobile devices will bring several important improvements such as material design, a widened device compatibility range, notifications that you can act on without unlocking your screen, battery saving functions and support for 64-bit processors. Furthermore, Android 5.0 will also embed a file-sharing function called Android Beam.
So far, Sony, HTC and Motorola have already confirmed the Android Lollipop update date for several of their devices, leaving Samsung the only company to be tiptoeing around the official date for the arrival of Android 5.0.
